  • About

The Port of Prince Rupert exists to develop trade through Prince Rupert Harbour in a way that benefits the Canadian economy, protects the beauty of the natural environment, and supports the health of the local community. The Prince Rupert Port Authority (PRPA) is responsible for the overall planning, development, marketing and management of the commercial port facilities within Prince Rupert Harbour. PRPA administers a large geographic area that includes approximately 1000 hectares of federal crown land for terminal-related development, as well as an associated harbour and coastline.
The Port of Prince Rupert is a global gateway, exporting bulk commodities from Canada to destinations all over the world. The shortest Pacific route to Asia offers a shorter sailing time to strategic markets (by up to 3 days), and reduced vessel charter costs for shippers. While primary destinations for bulk cargo are China, Japan and Korea, other common destinations include Southeast Asia, the Americas, North Africa, the Middle East and Europe.
The Port Authority takes pride in ensuring our operations and developments reflect the community's values and standards. Through a variety of programs, the Port of Prince Rupert strives to reinforce its commitment to community. Some of our community initiatives include the Port Interpretive Centre, Learning Gateway, Community Investment Fund, Community Information Forum, and much more.
Check out the Port of Prince Rupert website or social media for ongoing updates.
